Elmo looks not unlike the Muppet’s Cookie Monster and originates form the early 1970s. Some Sesame Street traditionalists (for they do exist apparently) resent what they see as Elmo’s increasing dominance of Sesame Street at the expense of other long standing characters such as Oscar the Grouch, Big Bird, and even the Cookie Monster himself. However Elmo has remained popular, especially in the internet subculture – possibly due to the similarity of Elmo’s name to ‘emo’. Our Japanese Elmo t-shirt provides a tee that everyone can enjoy.
