Shine On You Crazy Diamond was a track form the album that concerned itself with absence of Syd Barrett, the band’s former creative leader. Rumour had it that Syd suddenly turned up one day unannounced during the recording sessions but his physical appearance had changed so dramatically that no one recognised him. This was long considered an urban myth of sorts until a photo of Syd at the studio was unearthed:
